Hayo Boerema is active as a composer, with works for organ and choir, and has made several award-winning CD recordings, including projects on Jehan Alain and Olivier Messiaen.
Hayo Boerema is a Dutch organist, composer and teacher, internationally known for his concert practice and recordings. He studied organ, church music and improvisation at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and choral conducting at the Rotterdam Conservatory. In addition, he further specialized in improvisation and the French-symphonic organ repertoire. Boerema has won several international organ competitions, including in Vienna, Nuremberg, St Albans and Kotka. Since 2005 he has been titular organist of the Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk in Rotterdam, where he plays the largest organ in the Netherlands. As a concert organist, he performs worldwide and regularly collaborates with choirs, ensembles and orchestras. He is also active as a composer, with works for organ and choir, and has made several award-winning CD recordings, including projects around Jehan Alain and Olivier Messiaen.In addition to his performing practice, Boerema teaches organ and improvisation; since 2025 he has been teaching organ at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He is known for his colourful interpretations and his commitment to making the organ accessible to a wide audience.
