Matthijs is organist of the Oude Kerk in Rotterdam-Charlois and the Alexanderkerk in Rotterdam
Matthijs Breukhoven (1992) took his first piano and organ lessons at the SKVR music school in Rotterdam and then with Frank J. van Wingerden. In preparation for his conservatory studies, he received 5 years of lessons from Arjen Leistra. Matthijs studied bachelor’s degree in organ and church music at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) with Ben van Oosten and Bas de Vroome. He also received improvisation lessons from Hayo Boerema and choral conducting with Wiecher Mandemaker. Matthijs then studied a master’s degree in organ at the Utrecht School of the Arts with Reitze Smits.
In addition to organ, Matthijs studied minor subjects harpsichord with Siebe Henstra and carillon with Christiaan Winter. In 2021 he graduated as a Master of Music.
Since September 2025, Matthijs carillon has been studying at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, Belgium.
He is organist of the Oude Kerk in Rotterdam-Charlois and the Alexanderkerk in Rotterdam. In addition, Matthijs is conductor of the Christian Men’s Choir Scheveningen, Korenvereniging Oefening en Stichting, and Christian Composite Men’s Choir Zeeland.
