Organ Grandmasters Klee dreams Bach with Hayo Boerema

Klee dreams Bach is a total experience in which the work of Paul Klee and the music of Bach are uniquely linked to visual art and AI.In the work of painter Paul Klee (1879-1940), himself a talented violinist, music – especially that of Bach – always plays a role. Many paintings were given musical titles, such as Alter Klang and Im Bachsen Stil. In Klee Dreams Bach, this relationship is presented in a unique connection of music, video art and Artificial Intelligence.

There will be organ works by Bach and parts from his Musikalisches Opfer, performed by organist Hayo Boerema. Audiovisual artist Marcel Wierckx immerses the audience in computer-generated light projections on and around the transept organ of the Laurenskerk. The live-generated colour animations are inspired by paintings of Klee.D
The compositions by Bach are connected by some soundscapes, created with artificial intelligence. This includes the poem The Silence of the World for Bach by poet Lars Gustafsson, but also music that was played shortly before in the concert and then  ‘reused’ in the soundscape. This connection of sounds, colors and words gives the watching listener a special total experience.

Klee Dreams Bach is the successor to Dreams like Messiaen, a performance that was shown in dozens of churches between 2021 and 2023, including La Trinité in Paris, the home of Olivier Messiaen himself. What is special is that during the performances the permanent organist of the concert location himself performs. Marcel Wierckx, together with Johan Luijmes and Peter Ouwerkerk, founder of the organizing OpenOor Foundation, forms the creative team behind this innovative series of multidisciplinary concerts.
